The Abandoned

This is going to be shorter than previous entries. I have a longer drive today and want to get to Bluewater Lake State Park before it is dark to set up the tent and get in a shower before nightfall.

Had this all to myself!

For future reference, do not put Black Kettle National Grasslands into Google Maps. It takes you to the middle of the grasslands where you will be dodging cattle in the roads and be clueless on where a campsite could be.

After conferring with my out of car navigator, Mike Sherry, I put in Black Kettle National Grasslands Recreation Area. On my way there I saw another site that displayed it had trails and camping. I pull into this death trap and notice not one soul has been to this area in probably 3 Months. There were 3 or 4 “campsites” where some one had fought back vegetation. The plants were coming back with a vengeance. I took the mile and a half hike around in a circle which almost got me lost again because they have two loops but don't label them 1A-1B just trail markers saying you can go straight or left to stay on a trail.

Instead of staying there I went to the Recreation Area where it was actually quite beautiful. It was a bare bones site, but it was right on water, which I still can't tell if natural or man made, I lean towards man made.1 Nonetheless it was a good site which had the wolves howling at the moon for a nice sleepy time night track.

At least some cars arrived there at some point so people would say they saw someone there.2 It was a little chillier than I was hoping and it drizzled over night. I was able to get up at a decent hour and left around 8:15. It is a 9 hour drive to the next stop, hopefully with a tasty lunch stop in Albuquerque. Also, this wi-fi connection is wonky so it will be difficult to put up some pictures until later in the day.

1Too many commas, I don't care, alright, MORE COMMAS, You get a Comma, and you get a comma, and you get a comma...
